the happenings... november edition

as my boys have just finished a round of midterms for the year, i am quite excited about what is happening this month.

some of my guys are skilled cooks and i am excited about what they will cook in the upcoming fall festival we are having. UP Men and Lancer Arms are teaming up for a Fall Festival on 11/17. we will have a live band, potluck feasting and a dessert contest.

i am pretty pumped on how all of that will take place as well as a game of capture the flag that myself and two other RA's are planning for our respective living areas.

we are also planning a few awesome activities for december, so UP NATION be on the lookout

the happenings

it's been about six months since i last posted, and a lot has happened. here's a brief recap and a preview of what's to come.

April: end of the school year

May: Indonesia

June: started working at Thousand Pines

July: still worked at TP

August: left TP to start working at CBU as an RA (acronyms, aren't they great?) and as Asst. Culture Editor for the Banner

September: school year began, met my residents, started the never-ending cycle of homework.

All-in-all, i think i had a productive summer. As this new year begins, I am very excited for many things, basketball season, a few boxing matches, but mostly Res-Life events.

This friday, UP NATION is having our "minute-to-win-it" event. also in october, I will be hosting a fight night.

stay posted for pictures and updates for all these awesome events, as well as my thoughts and commentary on this upcoming sports season

mock wedding pictures

special thank you to sarah mckenzie and shae'von adams for inviting me out to shoot mock wedding photos for kaitlyn and greg. yesterday (january 31st) at around 2pm we all met at mt. rubidoux for a little photography. had a pretty fun time taking pictures and i must say that i am verily happy with all the results. i still find it amazing how different photographers can all shoot the same subject, but come out with very different end results.

i⋅con [ahy-kon]

a sign or representation that stands for its object by virtue of a resemblance or analogy to it.

pretty cheesy name, i know, but it was the best thing i can think of at the time that i registered for an account, plus a little play on words/spelling with eye-kon get it?? eye???

anyways, i'll be posting random stuff that i take photos of. i am yet to define myself stylistically as a photographer, although i would say that i do like taking dramatic shots

why!!?!?!

as some people know, the pacquiao/mayweather fight is NOT going to happen. at least on March 13th it won't. am i biased to say that i agree with the pacquaio camp? maybe. but i am really trying to be truly impartial. the fact is, it is truly unfair to demand that pacquiao or any boxer to be subject for random blood testing, and here is why.

-fighters are trying to make weight. they have to weight train, which builds strength, but it also builds muscle. muscle adds weight. on the day of the weigh in, most fighters would sweat out as much liquid out of their system in order to make the weight limit for the official weigh in. imagine being dehydrated and then randomly having to give blood. even elite atheletes will argue that it is unfair. olympic boxers do not have to lose weight in the same time frame that professional boxers do.

- random means random. professional boxers are also on a strict training schedule. they wake up early in the morning, eat/exercise/train during specific hours, and they also need to sleep at certain hours. a random blood test can happen at 2:30 am which can disrupt the sleep cycle of a boxer which would hurt their training schedule.

-unnecessary. even if a boxer were to use PED's or HGH's the blood test after a fight can conclusively find trace elements of such drugs that would overturn the results of the fight if said boxer were caught using these drugs.

in pacquiao's case, there has never been any accusation of drug use up until mayweather sr. claimed that pacquiao was using drugs. furthermore, pacquiao has fought for close to a decade as a professional boxer and in all of his fights win or loss, he has tested clean. if anyone were to follow his life and career and knew where he came from, it would be easy to believe that he can gain the size that he did in the time that he did.

-pacquiao is from the philippines, a third-world country. being a filipino and having family in the philippines, a filipino man in the philippines can weigh less than 120 lbs. but as soon as a filipino can get the proper amount of food/nutrition and train as hard as pacquiao does, it is reasonable to go from 124-147 within 3 years. i myself went from 135-160 within 6 months.
